The El Paso Chamber commends President Biden’s immigration policy reforms, which ensure U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children can maintain their family unity. These changes are set to protect more than an estimated half a million individuals, approximately 10,000 of whom are El Pasoans, by offering new pathways to lawful permanent residency and reducing family separation.

The El Paso Chamber supports the executive action President Biden has taken to address the influx of migrants to our borders. This action will mean fewer disruptions at the port, meaning businesses will not be as impacted as they have been in past years. President Biden’s executive actions, while crucial, serve only as an interim measure, highlighting the pressing need for comprehensive bipartisan reforms to secure the Southern border and address the broader immigration challenges facing the nation.

The El Paso Chamber is thrilled to commemorate the centennial anniversary of its Woman’s Department, an integral part of our community since its establishment in 1924, making it the first of its kind in the United States. This milestone marks a century of significant contributions to the cultural, educational, and civic life of El Paso.

The El Paso Chamber proudly held its second annual Armed Forces Day Community Ball on Saturday, May 18th. This night of tribute and celebration not only brought together military and civilian guests but also underscored the deep-rooted bond between the El Paso community and Fort Bliss. It was a testament to the spirit of unity and respect that defines our special relationship, making each attendee feel a part of something bigger.

At a recent City Council meeting, Mia Romero, Director of Advocacy for the El Paso Chamber, raised significant concerns about the proposed new impact fees in Ordinance Number 017113. Romero emphasized the need for a thorough evaluation process involving the Impact Fee Committee, the Planning Commission, and external consultants to ensure accountability and detailed assessments.

Despite these concerns, the City Council approved a 28% cost of living increase to El Paso Water Impact Fees, indicating a complex balance between infrastructure needs and economic impacts, with further discussions anticipated to explore the broader consequences on the local economy.

Chaparral Wireless, a regional leader in high-quality internet services, has been steadfast in its commitment to enhancing connectivity across El Paso and its neighboring areas, including Fort Bliss.
