Black-Owned Business and Entrepreneurship
Last week the Chamber hosted a discussion on Black entrepreneurship. The conversation featured two local business owners, Kellie Evans (JS House of Fashion) and Kenneth Broomfield (Blue Collar Ice), and delved into a variety of issues including how their businesses were started, the challenges of building the first wave of profit, and strategies to capitalize on networks.
The Chamber’s efforts overlap national efforts to, as McKinsey argues in a recent report, create a supportive ecosystem for Black-owned businesses. In addition to flagging obstacles for Black-owned businesses across the country, the report provides insight into opening access to capital, knowledge, and support.
