Leadership El Paso
Leadership El Paso convened for July, once again in the digital world. This month’s session focused on healthcare and resilience. Sessions for the month included an insightful conversation between Fort Bliss Commanding General Patrick Matlock and President and CEO David Jerome, El Paso architect Edgar Lopez and FastSigns El Paso business owner Monica Velasco, El Paso health and fire officials, City CFO Robert Cortinas, various leaders from El Paso’s nonprofit world, and healthcare providers from Del Sol, UMC, and La Fe.
The conversation between Matlock and Jerome was particularly interesting as Matlock discussed resilience and the nature of facing challenges and dealing with challenges as they expand to take up more of a leader’s bandwidth, Matlock, recently back from Afghanistan, related both his own experiences and those of his units, in rising toward resilience and approaching challenges with an open mind.
Speakers throughout the day all framed the challenges of COVID-19 as immediate but all recognized that lessons being learned around resilience can be built into operations and planning moving forward.
“This was a great day of useful insight from a variety of fields and with many folks that are doing positive things and leading by strong example,” explained David Jerome. He added, “Not only are we grateful to have these leaders share their vision with the LEP, I am especially proud of how the class has risen to the occasion of being online and engaging and interfacing with speakers and with each other.”
